Anderson City Council incumbent Phil Burnett's suggestion for balancing the city's budget - by firing the city manager - is drawing some sharp criticism from his election opponents.

Firefighters from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection prepare to put out a fire that burned the trailer of a big rig Saturday afternoon on Interstate 5 at Bowman Road in Tehama County. The fire, which broke out about 5:15 p.m., caused all lanes of I-5 to temporarily shut down because of heavy smoke, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher said.
