Coming off its worst August for hotel revenue in five years, Redding needed a boost.With an assist from the newly formed Tourism Business Improvement District, the city got it. The district is funded from a 1 percent add-on to hotel customers' bills.

Financial difficulties aren't quashing Bill Johnson's plans for a restaurant in Anderson.Johnson's firm, River Run Cove Land Development Co., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July. Typically, a Chapter 11 allows a company to reorganize to stay in business.
