50-Word Dash: Sept. 27, 2008

Wallets Revealed: Lower attendance for "Bodies Revealed" reflects the economy, not religious sensibilities. David Haddon ("50-Word Dash," Thursday) should examine the rise and fall of church contributions.

John P. Schafer, Shasta Lake

Blue-ribbon bias: Your left-wing liberal editor is competing with the Sacramento Bee for the most biased cartoons last Saturday and Sunday.

Jack: because an editorial cartoon counters YOUR bias, you get upset. It's a cartoon, a drawing, a representation of reality from one perspective. If you don't like it, don't look at it.

John P. Schafer is right and it is getting worse. It makes me wonder after Bush, who in their right mind wants to be president? It is as if Bush really hates us all and wants to make sure he leaves us with nothing when he leaves. Food banks are down. Church contributions are down.

Jack,

The political cartoonist featured by the "liberal editor" of the Record Searchlight more than any other cartoonist is the brilliant, demented, far-right-wing wacko Michael Ramirez. Ramirez has more talent and wit in his little toe than the cartoonist Bruce Tinsley (of Mallard Filmore shame) has in his entire gin-soaked body. The "liberal editor" of the RS ran one of Ramirez's cartoons today.

If the only point of view that you can tolerate is your own, I suggest you stop reading and tune into Fox News.

Why is it people have to open their mouths and prove that they are stupid. If they just looked good with their mouths shut they would have more friends but I have a feeling they look mean and annoyed.

Posted by Zebrareader on September 27, 2008 at 11:24 a.m.

When I ordered my TV, I had it come with a special feature, an off and on button on the remote. The same goes for the radio. When I read anything I am able to put it down or turn the page. It just amazes me when people complain about commercials, features in the paper or programs on TV. I have to agree with Dionysus regarding cartoons in the paper, don't read it.

I am not held captive by any medium of entertainment. If there isn't anything to watch on TV and there often isn't I have lots of other things to do that is fun. I love PBS, but there are lots of times I don't watch it either. If anyone is limited by any one element of the media you really have to ask yourself if you need to develop other things to do. Many things that are fun do not cost all that much, if any, to do. There are always our love ones and friends and spending time with them too.

With Obama, they will probably stay down and eventually go away.

I am a believer of putting down a snippet of a quote that you are responding to. Your statement went right over my head. Maybe I don't watch enough TV.

I am assuming you are commenting about my last post about choice. I always thought the Harry Potter book series was about art and thinking independently. Wizards do their own magic by creating their own good times such as reading or art. Muggles just sit in front of the tv. That box will eat your brains if you let it, but muggles are unable to think of other ways of entertaining themselves. They are the ones that complain about the commercials and not having any good programs to watch.

Can't we just comment and go? Can't we just get along?

"Can't we just comment and go? Can't we just get along?"

I will just assume a subject then. You mentioned that Obama will be going away. I don't see how he could since he is going to be the next president although he will be very busy.

Yes, I think we can get along with each other since members of congress and those with power do not read these posts. No one is going to listen to us with our posts anyhow. Still, it is fun to express our opinions and I do learn from them.

Again, if you don't put something down as a quote I usually don't know what the poster is referring to when addressing something to me.

I try to listen to the serious posters. I think you are one of the serious posters, MOST of the time.

Good night

Everyone is a critic. Well, I am glad I am serious most of the time and I hope humorous the rest of the time.

P.S. 5:30 am is good night?

Serious most of the time.

Humorous Some of the time.

Downright nasty a lot of the time, especially when you "team up" with john or another poster.

Doesn't mean you are always mean or stupid.

Actually, I got up at that time and done this, watched tv and went back to bed. Rough nite.

"Downright nasty a lot of the time, especially when you "team up" with john or another poster."

I get mad when people don't keep up with the news or don't read books or watch something other than the stupid sitcoms on tv. Then they post on here with something they heard from someone in a bar or somewhere else. The amount of folklore out there is incredible.

I don't team up with anyone although I do consider John pretty intelligent. I don't always agree with him and said so.

There has been times I thought I was too mean, and other times too nice. If someone tries to "dumb" me down I am pretty good giving someone a come back. I like that about me. I have learned to question people's so-called facts. They will often say this is the way things are and I have found that often they are talking through their hats.

I guess I grew up around people who talked down to me and I discovered they did not know what they were talking about. I don't assume anything. I also don't intend to agree with anyone that I am inferior to anyone else and when I see someone else accept it I am furious for that person. No one is inferior and one has to believe in oneself.

You probably did not want such a long answer but I do enjoy these exchanges. I learn a lot from them.

Didn't mean to make you mad. Seems like no matter4 what I say to you, you get upset. I actually respect you and most of the things you have to say, but the team thing was in reference to a time gone by and I guess I won't be responding to or about you.

I truly did not mean to upset you. Sorry.

I am a big believer in standing by what I say and not what someone says is in implied. I said that I really enjoyed posting and learn quite a bit from these posts.

If I am angry, I don't post. I go and do something else. It is pretty rare for me to get that angry.

It is your option to respond to me or not. That is your choice. All of this sounds so familiar that I think I had this exact same conversation with someone who does not post anymore. I can't remember the user name on that one. Anyway, do what you feel you must do.
