Simpson blanks Bethany
The Simpson University men's soccer team beat Bethany 2-0 on Saturday.
The Red Hawks bounced back from a home loss to Menlo with goals from Tony Gagliano and Dave Barnett in the game's first 20 minutes.
Simpson had another three goals called off due to offsides penalties in the first half.
Simpson (6-3-1) hosts Dominican at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Redding Soccer Park.
The game part of a doubleheader with the Simpson women's soccer team.
JC cross country
The Shasta College men's team took second at the Viking Invitational hosted by Diablo Valley College.
Andrew Milne was second in the 4-mile race in 21 minutes, 21 seconds. Sharieff Mulkey took 12th in 22:07, while Curtis Wallbridge was 13th in 23:02.
The women took third led by a fourth-place finish from Brittany Williams in 21:43 over the 5K course. Stephanie Frescas was fifth in 21:48, while Natalie Marquez was seventh in 22:23.
JC wrestling
Shasta College finished fourth at the West Valley Invite.
Matt Thomas took second at 157 pounds, while Derek Rottenberg was third at 184 pounds.
Other top placers for the Knights were Derek Ellis (133) and C.J. Lampkin (174) getting fourth-place finishes and Dustin Reid (165) and Ty Minto (197) getting sixth-place finishes.

St. Mary's tournament
Redding Christian was first in the silver bracket.
Jessica Livingston had 50 assists and Jessica Peer had 36 kills. Sarah Bartow added 37 digs for the Lions (12-14-1), who went 4-2 in the tourney.

Chance Egure ran for 146 yards on 20 carries and Richard Asdorian had a 70-yard TD run, but the Patriots couldn't hang with the Mustangs (5-1).

The Lions got a hat trickk from Drew Vanderwerf to beat the Honkers, who had beaten them 6-1 last month.
Varderwerf scored his first and third goals off assists from Yoon Ho. His second goal was unassisted.
