Youth programs offered at church

AWANA Trek and Kids QUEST (Quest to Understand Essential Spiritual Truth) will be held from 6:20 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays at Bowman Community Church, 18335 Bowman Road in Cottonwood. AWANA is for children in sixth through eighth grade and QUEST is for children in prekindergarten through fifth grade. Meetings include games, music and Bible stories.

Youth music event slated at church

Young American Christian Music Scene (YACMS) will be held today from 2 to 4 p.m. and first Saturdays of the month at Assembly of God Church, 20404 Gas Point Road in Cottonwood. The event offers youths an opportunity to perform vocal and instrumental music and learn from one another. Features refreshments, contests and prizes. Prophecy Seminar scheduled today

"Prophecy Seminar" with Walid Shoebat will be held at 7:30 p.m. today and 5 p.m. Sunday at Little Country Church, 873 Canby Road in Redding. Shoebat, a former Islamic terrorist, is now a Christian advocate. Call 222-4092.

American Indian to speak at Unity

Rod Lindsay, a member of the Tuolomne Band of Me-Wuk Indians, will speak at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Unity Church, 1852 Buenaventura Blvd. in Redding. Lindsay will speak on "Native Roots & Values: Living in Two Worlds," and will bring his American Indian flute, hand drum and other artifacts to share. Unitarians to host musical worship

An event "Music to Nurture the Spirit" will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Redding Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and Sharrah Dunlap Sawyer Inc., 6590 Lockheed Drive in Redding. Participants are invited to come sing, play an instrument or just listen. Call 241-6315.

Eckankar service set for Sunday

The monthly Eckankar service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday. The topic is "Soul Travel: The Natural Ability of the Soul." Call 247-0686 for location and directions.

Mission luncheon to be held at church

The Good News Rescue Mission will hold its auxiliary luncheon at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Chruch, 1959 Eureka Way, in Redding. Call 365-2180.

Episcopalians to host prayer service

A contemplative prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints' Episcopal Church, 2150 Benton Drive in Redding. The theme of the guided meditation is "Sitting in Stillness, Listening to God." Services will be held each Tuesday.

Catholic workshop planned at church

The Diocese of Sacramento will present a Catholic Faith seminar through the Lay Formation Institute at 8:10 a.m. next Saturday at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, 2600 Shasta View Drive in Redding. Registration for the event is at 7:50 a.m. and the event continues until 4:30 p.m. The topic of the workshop is "Handing on the Faith: Teaching the way that Jesus did." Registration $25. Methodists to hold Darfur concert

A concert for "Tents of Hope" will be held at 7 p.m. next Saturday at First United Methodist Church, South and East streets in Redding. Greg Lawson, a musician will share his compositions "Songs for Darfur."

The event to raise awareness on the genocide in Darfur will feature Shasta County's Tents of Hope. Gabriel Stauring and Katie Jay Scott of Stop Genocide Now and Camp Darfur will also give a report on their recent trip to Darfur.
