Group seeks applicants
The Citizens Bond Oversight Committee for the Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District is taking applications and nominations for an open seat on the group.
For the open position, the applicant or nominee must be a person who is active in supporting Shasta College and serves on a local advisory council or foundation. Excluded from applying are employees, officials, vendors, contractors or consultants of the college.
For application or nomination materials, call 242-7510 or e-mail Sue Vanderwerf at svanderwerf@shastacollege.edu.
The Citizens Bond Oversight Committee’s next meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Shasta College Board Room in Building 100 on the college’s main Redding campus.
Republican Women donate to library
The Redding Republican Women presented the Redding Library with a copy of “Mice Way to Learn About Government, Voting, Campaigns, and Elections: A Curriculum Guide and Our Country’s Presidents” as part of its Mamie Eisenhower Library Project.
The Mamie Eisenhower Library Project began in 1961, started by the National Federation of Republican Women as a memorial to the First Lady. The books donated through the program generally showcase American philosophy and beliefs and prominent historical figures.
The Redding Republican Women also are active each year in many area schools through its “Buckets of Books” program. The group partners with schools and donates a number of history, science and math books to school libraries annually.
College expands satellite programs
Shasta College has a host of new courses it plans to expand to some of its satellite locations for the fall semester. Classes begin Aug. 18.
Starting this fall, the college will offer two forest technician classes — Introduction to Natural Resources and Environmental Science — at its Tehama, Trinity and Intermountain campuses.
New to the Tehama and Trinity campuses, the college will also begin offering its legal assistant program. The program takes two years to complete and begins in fall with the Civil Procedures and Litigation class.
For the first time, Shasta College will offer online the class Creating and Managing the Virtual Office, as well as a retail management marketing class this fall.
The college also will bring in the new agriculture class Poultry and Captive Bird Science and Management to its main Redding campus. The class will focus on the history of bird management, common species and current management practices.
For more information on these classes or Shasta College’s fall semester, call 242-7650.
