Social Security checks may shrink for some already on low incomes

New report says salmon, steelhead and trout in danger of extinction

Without help, almost two-thirds of the state's native salmon, steelhead and trout could be gone within a century.

That includes seven fish swimming in north state waters, according to a report released this week by California Trout, a San Francisco-based fish and watershed advocacy group.

An Orland man arrested after he was spotted trespassing on a ranch wearing only a flannel shirt and an electronic tracking device on his ankle also exposed himself behind a freeway rest stop a day earlier, deputies said Thursday.

Owner says Miller Auto Center is not for sale

Miller Auto Center co-owner Jim Oliver on Wednesday refuted rumors that he's selling his downtown Redding dealership.

The recession has prompted Oliver to think about downsizing, which might lead some to assume he's getting out of the car business, he said.

"I'm not going out of business. I have four kids; I still have to sell cars," Oliver said while sitting in his office.

Last month, Oliver vacated his indoor auto mall on the southeast corner of California and Trinity streets. Miller's used car lot sits next to the building.
