School holidays can be a blast for kids. When you are the parent, though, it can be challenging to keep kids occupied. This Thanksgiving holiday there are plenty of things to do with your child. Students in Shasta County public schools get all week off this year. Whether you have the whole week off or just a few days, a little planning and imagination can create some great family memories.

Shasta County's public schools stand to lose millions of dollars this year if budget cuts proposed by the governor's office win approval.

The governor's proposal would cut the amount schools receive for each student by $300, resulting in an $8 million loss for schools countywide. If the proposal passes, it would likely happen in January.
